Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships

Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships is a key leader in The Arc, charged to develop, implement and manage fundraising strategies that support The Arc’s longstanding commitment to advocate with and for, and serve, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The Senior Director will effectively identify, cultivate and steward all manner of institutional giving to include corporations, foundations and government agencies and actively manage the resulting partnerships, sponsorships, grants and other institutional relationships. Mentoring a Development Manager, the Senior Director will create and implement a comprehensive growth strategy and fundraising plan to encourage institutional support and partnerships for The Arc and its mission. The Senior Director also serves as a national leader to support The Arc’s chapter network in developing and expanding capacity to increase institutional support at the state and local level. A successful candidate will demonstrate strong experience establishing and managing relationships and engaging in multi-channel fundraising efforts, as well as the ability to benchmark and analyze the core metrics to measure success. The Senior Director must have an entrepreneurial spirit, and be a critical, strategic thinker who is a collaborative leader and manager with a high emotional intelligence. This position reports to the CEO and is located in Washington, DC.*


Job Responsibilities:                                                

  • Develop, implement and lead the strategic fundraising plan to identify, cultivate and steward corporate, foundation and government partnerships to raise both restricted and unrestricted funds for The Arc.
  • Lead the Corporate, Foundation and Government Support Team and collaborate with the Individual Philanthropy Team to help cultivate new and existing partners and monitor trends in development and giving.
  • Oversee all aspects of institutional relationships to include prospecting, solicitation, grant activities and reporting, stewardship, and evaluating results to ensure team goals and metrics are achieved.
  • Grow and build a pipeline of new prospects and opportunities to build sustainable and meaningful partnerships that create shared value.
  • Serve as an internal partner to develop and implement sustainability plans for The Arc’s current and prospective grant-funded program initiatives, developing proposal concepts and proposal products, and stewarding relationships with funders during and beyond the proposal process.
  • Own the production of all grant proposals, LOIs and reports to include writing, budget development, further prospect research and the development of other LOIs and proposals by other team members, and coordinate the development of supplemental materials, the creation of the final proposal product, and its delivery to the institution.
  • Ascertain the risk and potential reward of various grant opportunities to determine the likelihood of success against the investment of resources required to pursue the funding.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for foundation, corporate, and government partners.
  • Build an internal system to facilitate reporting and proposal writing in a more streamlined, efficient and consistent manner.
  • Create, implement and monitor performance under annual development budget, including revenue and expense projections and evaluation metrics.
  • Collaborate with  teams across the organization, to grow opportunities for new and expanded corporate and foundation relationships with our advocacy and program initiatives.
  • Collaborate with teams involved in production of meetings and events to assure sponsors are appropriately engaged and recognized.
  • Key contact for chapters of The Arc seeking technical assistance on corporate and foundation partnerships.
  • Team with the Senior Director of Individual Philanthropy to establish an over-arching development strategy for the organization as a whole.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.


Qualifications & Expectations:

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including three years managing.
  • A strategic and adaptable leader with strong relationship management skills and demonstrated success in building and expanding pipelines.
  • Experience cultivating, closing, and stewarding gifts from institutional funders of all types.
  • Strong proposal writing skills a must.
  • Exceptional initiative, vision, and ambition to lead a growing fundraising program.
  • Proven success fostering relationships with institutions, demonstrating the organization’s value, telling a “story” and meeting revenue goals.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines. 
  • Strong organizational skills, with a methodical and disciplined approach that is highly driven and results oriented.
  • Ability to develop effective workplans, including strategies, tactics and metrics, that monitor and communicate progress on a continual basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various constituencies, including program officers, corporate and government agency representatives, board members, chapter and national staff members.
  • Proven success leading, motivating and mentoring a team.
  • Flexible and adapts well to change.
  • Open to travel as needed to meet with partners, donors and other constituents.
  • Sincere interest in improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a must.
